The Surigaonon people are part of the wider Visayan ethno linguistic group, who constitute the largest Filipino ethno linguistic group. Although traditionally grouped with the Cebuano’s, the Surigaonons have a distinct identity. They uses dialects such as Kamayo, Cantilangnon and Tagon-on. They are peace-loving and gentle. The favorable climate in the region makes them non-temperamental. They have the humor of Visayan, the frugality of Ilocano and other traits which were inherited from their forebears who ventured into this part of the archipelago. They are also talented in many ways such as dancing, singing, sports, etc. -- name it and they can actually pull it off. They respect everyone who are around them and they are very friendly.
The people are predominantly Roman Catholic and the rest of the populations are Aglipayans, Protestants and other religions.
